Task # 32 – Online Resources

Did you know that at the beginning of the year, the online resources the library offers on our website underwent a big change?  The following tasks will help you re-acquaint yourself with what is available for our patrons.

  1. How many categories of information are there?  Name 4 resources.
  1. Snapchat is a private social messaging tool that my kids use, where can I learn more about it?  What else can I learn about using this resource?
  1. What other tech resources are available?
  1. Name 3 languages you can learn on Mango Languages.  How many languages are available on Mango?
  1. There are 2 different genealogy & local history resources, how are they different?

Email your answers to your manager, and post a comment about one of the resources you have used and what you like about it.

One resource I use is Novelist Plus. I like to use this resource because it allows for an easy way to determine the order of a book series. If you know any book from the series you can type the title in the search bar and it will give you a clickable link to the series order.

  2. I like to use Novelist when parents ask what age range a book is suitable for as well as author & series read a-likes. I also show them how to use Novelist through the library catalogue/website so they can try it themselves from home.

Quite some time ago, as a library patron, I spent a bit of time using Ancestry. It was quite interesting to see actual copies of documents showing my grandparents’ births, marriages, deaths. Some day, when I have more free time, I’d like to pursue this further.

One resources I am excited about using is Mango languages. While I have not used it yet, the variety of languages is really impressive.
